Name:The Pilgrimage of Hsuan Tsang

Crystal Film crew avidly retraced the route of the extraordinary Chinese monk Hsuan Tsang who trekked 17 years across Central Asia to India in the 7th century. Returning to China with some 657 Sanskrit texts, he brought Indian Buddhism to his homeland. His quest inspired China’s classical 16th century novel of Buddhist spirituality combined with high adventure ‘Journey to the West’. The story has remained a hit in movies and TV series - both live and animated - throughout Asia

Literally following in Hsuan Tsang’s steps, Crystal Film crew traveled 16 months, accumulating nearly 6,000 minutes of footage throughout China, Kirghizstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Nepal, and India. The 12x30’ series depicts Hsuan Tsang’s momentous journey while simultaneously highlighting the culture and geography of Central Asia.

Crystal Film & Animation  and CCTV co-produced the series. Director Tiemu Jin’s documentary ‘Revived Corps’ was well received by the American History Channel and other 100 territories.
